About Nik Sol
Nik Sol was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on June the 7th of 1988. He grew up in Uithoorn where he obtained his atheneum diploma at the Alkwin Kollege in 2006. From 2006 till 2012 he studied medicine at the VU University Medical center, Amsterdam.
During his studies he developed an interest in science. He applied for the Honours Program and successfully finished the program at the Neuro-Oncology Research Group at the Cancer Center Amsterdam, VU University Medical Center, under supervision of Prof.dr. Thomas Würdinger.
In January 2013 he started working as a neurology resident at the Kennemer Gasthuis in Haarlem. Soon after he started his PhD project in April of that same year. Back at the Neuro-Oncology Research Group under supervision of Prof.dr. Thomas Würdinger and Dr. Jaap Reijneveld he searched for novel biomarkers for both the oncology and immunological field. During his PhD he set up a longitudinal cohort of glioma patients and started several international collaborations, which resulted in this thesis. In 2015 he studied a year at Harvard medical school in Boston, USA under the supervision of Prof.dr. B.A. Tannous.
In April 2017 he started his specialist registrar training in neurology at the VU University Medical Center, now Amsterdam UMC, under supervision of Prof.dr. H.W. Berendse and in the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis Amsterdam, under supervision of Prof.dr. H.C. Weinstein. Ever since he combines his clinical and scientific work.
